Why Does an Old Elevator Still Vibrate After Traction Machine Replacement?

During old elevator modernization, replacing the elevator traction machine does not always eliminate car vibration, machine-room resonance, or abnormal operating noise. This does not necessarily mean the new traction machine is defective. In many cases, the vibration is caused by compatibility issues within the entire elevator traction system, including vibration isolation pads, wire ropes, traction sheaves, and base installation.

Elevator Vibration After Machine Replacement

1. Why Does the Elevator Still Vibrate After Traction Machine Replacement?

1. Mismatched or Aged Vibration Isolation Pads

Elevator traction machines typically use vibration isolation pads to reduce operating vibrations. If the pads have unsuitable hardness, are improperly installed, or are reused despite deterioration, vibrations may be transmitted directly to the machine frame and building structure.

2. Uneven Traction Machine Base Installation

An uneven traction machine base, unevenly loaded mounting bolts, or insufficient frame rigidity can introduce additional vibration during operation.

3. Uneven Elevator Wire Rope Tension

After traction machine replacement, significant tension differences among multiple elevator wire ropes can cause uneven loading on the traction sheave, resulting in periodic vibration during elevator operation.

4. Poor Matching Between the Traction Sheave and Wire Ropes

If the new traction sheave's groove profile, diameter, or groove condition is incompatible with the existing wire ropes, the elevator may experience vibration, uneven friction, and abnormal noise.

2. How Can These Problems Be Resolved During Modernization?

During old elevator modernization, upgrading the elevator traction machine alone is not enough. The following components and conditions should also be inspected:

Traction machine base levelness and mounting condition;

Vibration isolation pad specifications, hardness, and installation position;

Elevator wire rope tension and wear condition;

Compatibility between traction sheave grooves and wire rope specifications;

Deflection sheaves, secondary sheaves, and related bearings;

Control system startup, acceleration, and deceleration parameters.

If necessary, the installation alignment between the traction machine and the traction system should also be readjusted.

3. Elevator Modernization Parts Purchasing Recommendations

When purchasing elevator modernization parts, provide the elevator's rated load, speed, roping ratio, wire rope specifications, traction sheave diameter, original traction machine parameters, and base mounting dimensions.

For elevator modernization projects, also confirm compatibility between the new traction machine and the control cabinet, encoder, brake, and mechanical mounting structure. Focusing only on motor power while overlooking overall system compatibility can lead to persistent operating problems.

4. A-FLY Elevator & Escalator Parts Supply

A-FLY supplies elevator traction machines, traction sheaves, wire ropes, vibration isolation pads, deflection sheaves, secondary sheaves, and related elevator modernization parts for elevator repairs, old elevator modernization, and system upgrades.

We support model identification, dimensional matching, parameter verification, and OEM/ODM customization. We also supply control systems, door systems, safety components, and a wide range of elevator and escalator parts to meet the procurement needs of contractors and maintenance companies.

Conclusion

Persistent vibration after replacing an old elevator traction machine usually requires an inspection of the entire traction system. Problems with vibration isolation pads, the machine base, wire rope tension, or traction sheave compatibility can all cause continued vibration. A systematic inspection is more effective than replacing the traction machine alone.
