Elevator switch accessories you should know

Product

If your task is installing an elevator switch panel, you should know a little about the switch itself. This article will discuss what it is, where it is located, and how to test it. These tips can help you avoid any problems with the switch. They will also help you correctly install the elevator switch panel the first time.

Requirements For Installing Elevator Switch

When installing an elevator switch panel, some key requirements must be observed. First, all wiring inside the elevator should be properly insulated. That means it must comply with the latest version of the National Electrical Code. Next, it should be installed in a rigid conduit or flexible metal pipe and terminated in a junction box. In addition, all wiring should be protected with a flame retardant, moisture-proof enclosure.

The switch panel must also protect the ground fault circuit breaker. Also, it should be large enough to accommodate up to ten people. It is also important that the panel includes a test switch. The switch allows the operator to operate the elevator independently without answering hall calls or interfering with another vehicle in the duplex installation.

The elevator switch panel shall have a three-position key-operated switch. It must be removable when in the “closed” position. In addition, the elevator must constantly return to the main floor. If it leaves the main floor, it must reverse to the next available floor to return.

Location Of The Switch Panel

The position of the elevator switch panel is critical to the safe operation of the elevator. These switches can turn the elevator on and off or put it in inspection mode. In addition, these panels contain buttons for manual operation. Therefore, it is important to ensure that only trained professionals have access to these panels.

The lobby out-of-service switch is located below the lobby call button. Used when the car needs to be taken out of service. Likewise, the lobby location indicator and call button are below the lobby out-of-service switch.

The location of the switch panel on the elevator should be simple and practical. Well-designed panels are easy to use and show the building layout. Buttons are the basic element of styling. Some of them are switches, while others are just labels. Typically, a small strip of light indicates an active button. Inactive buttons are white and can be found on the far right.

Switch Type

There are many types of elevator switches. These switches are used differently, depending on the type of elevator. For example, you might have an elevator with a bypass button that you can use to avoid the landing hall entirely. You may also have an elevator with an extra floor button that you can use to order an elevator to that floor.

These switches are also used in commercial elevators. They are available in two configurations: SPDT (single normally closed) and DPDT (double normally closed). SPDT type is used for electric and hydraulic elevators, and DPDT type is used for one-floor running. Both switches feature solid metal construction, normally open and normally closed contacts, and can be used with relay logic.

Key switch controls are located above and below the floor selection buttons and are used by building operators to control certain elevator functions. These controls may include fire department controls, doors remaining open, maintenance functions on/off, etc.

Requirements For Testing Switches

To ensure the safe operation of elevator switches, some basic requirements need to be followed. For example, a switch should have a regulator that controls its speed. It should also be able to stop working when the electrical switch is turned off. Also, a second disconnect switch must be seen on the elevator machine.
